The Importance of a Healthy Lifestyle

Recently, I have begun my journey towards living a more healthy lifestyle. I have been eating whole grains, a ton of fiber, veggies and fruits, and proteins. Learning how to eat right was definitely not on my mind when I was getting ready for school, but let me tell you why living healthy while you’re in school is so important.

I have been known to smoke, have the occasional drink, and am most notorious for grabbing things to eat on the go and on the cheap. Being in grad school is hard work! You’re constantly busy with classes, practicum, homework, friends, and family. It can be hard to think about adding time in to prepare a good meal for yourself. However, let me tell you how this past week has been with my new healthy eating choices.

By taking the time to make eggs and whole wheat toast for breakfast, packing snacks and a filling lunch that includes protein, veggies, and carbs for my school day or practicum site, and then coming home at night to grill some chicken with mixed vegetables, I have had so much energy! I focus better in class and feel more confident in my homework. Including water has taken the place of most caffeinated beverages. I can also attest to the fact that my move and disposition has improved greatly. I feel more optimistic and cheery!  I also feel like I have more time to do household tasks like laundry or dusting. I know that time hasn’t been added to my day, but the energy do things on my to do list after a long day is amazing! I encourage everyone to try this and see how they feel at the end of just one week, even just one day. Cut the cigarettes and alcoholic drinks and feel even better! If you include a walk for 30 minutes too, you’ll feel like a superstar! I look forward to hearing any other success stories by making this change!

    I started a similar process 3 years ago, after I was really sick for over a 6 months. The DR’s couldn’t really help. Today thanks to this nutritional change I am 95 % healthy. The only habit I can’t get rid off is drinking coffee. Do you have any suggestions?

    Having a well-balanced, healthy diet in addition to regular exercise is critical especially as I get older. However, I do miss the good old days of eating whatever I wanted! Nevertheless, there are so many tasty foods that are nutritious as well.

  15. I am definately relaying to what you say. Although I smoke and drank my way through University, no at 34 health care is really on my mind. I stopped smoking, cut back drinking and try to lead healthy life with a lot of excercising but battling healthy eating is not where I want it to be yet… Sitting all day, creating turnkey websites does not help either :)

    As a person who enjoys exercising on a daily basis, I found this article interesting. People have different exercise needs depending on family history, age, weight, etc but it was interesting to me that each source offered a different recommended time and claimed different results. Perhaps looking further into the research of each study would provide insights as to why they differ.

    7c1Im just curious on the views of other pelpoe about the pet trade on sugar gliders.I do own sugar gliders, but there not my pets I rescue them from pelpoe who have no clue what there doing! I would love to see them in australia, gliding across the tree tops, and being free of cages but its too lait for these guys instead I try to simulate what habitat they would have in the wild, I have a very large rec room in my home that I converted to a suggie paradice, its wonderful, it has live trees, a real rock wall that expands across a whole wall, a costom waterfall, theres even a run that gose outside for the summer months. The room has VERY high seelings so theres loads of room to glide, i have noticed that they are MUCH happier now then they were in there cages.I do believe they should be in there natural habitat and I have simulated there climate as best as possible, im just wondering what other pelpoes views are on them being pets?(PS: I know pelpoe are going to say if there happy and healthy there fine but dont you think they should be where they belong? gliding across trees, being free, sure yours are happy but they have never had the chance to live the life of a wild glider so they dont know on what there missing out on.)im not asking HOW TO OWN A SUGAR GLIDER im asking your opinion on having them as pets!!!are you agenst them being pets or do you LIKE it?im also planning on moving to Australia once im old enough, I think its a beautiful place to live! maby if I move over there I will get a ermit and bring my suggs akong with me, if i did I would build a HUGE outdoor habitat so they could interact with other gliders!maby, if it were possible I could rehabilitate them into the wild, that woudl be the coolest thing ever.

    You could try Dandelion coffee as a coffee alternative, it’s dry powdered dandelion root which you use the same way as instant coffee, just add hot water and milk. It’s not actually that bad. You can get it in main health food shops.

Stay fit, healthy and focussed, with energy to spare by taking the time to prepare and eat fresh fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of water. Also, as you say, not only do we have more energy, look better but we also feel betterWhen I put on weight or fee tired, I always make a few changes like eat more whole foods, swap refined carbs to wholemeal foods, eat more low fat protein, salads, fruit and water. I also steam vegetables and rice, bbq grill meat and fish and load up my plate with loads of vegetables. I also cut down on sugar and fat and these changes make a huge positive difference, every time.

    I have just started to try to improve my lifestyle. Its mainly focused around drinking less and eating healthier. I have just read the “4 hour body” by Tim Ferris, if you have heard of it, and I’m attempting to follow what he has suggested. This is dropping so called ‘bad’ carbs. So anything that is refined or any white carbs, this include potatoes. You replaced your carbs by increasing the good carbs and protein. So eating more bean and tofu for me. What I like about this approach is that you can eat whatever you like as long as it fits into this ethos and once a week you are allow to go crazy and eat whatever you like. I’ve found that on these days the things I’ve been craving don’t actually taste that good anyway.

    Its a different approach that I’ve not seen before but after 2 weeks I’m losing a little fat (I hope)

A good rule of thumb is that if it does not grow naturally in the garden then you may not want to eat it.     I appreciate your blog because any share that recommends a healthy life style and also gives examples of it helps the individual and the world.
    I, too, practice healthy living- I eat only organic foods and ingredients and try to have a “clean” diet (no GMO, additives, gluten-free, artificial coloring, etc). I do yoga and get my cardio in.
    Like you, I get more energy and focus this way.
    One thing that I am real strong about for myself is consciousness living. With spiritual consciousness or meditating- this can do wonders for staying healthy and clear, focused, and eliminating the “monkey mind chatter”.
