Beloved Boston

I moved to Boston five years ago and quickly fell in love with the city. Here is a rundown of some of my favorite things to do and places to visit:

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum – located along a string of parks called the Riverway in Boston (a great place to run). Not only is the art fantastic, but there is a charming enclosed courtyard with beautiful plants and flowers. Speaking of charming courtyards, there is an open-air courtyard hidden away in the Boston Public Library that is a lovely place to read, share a sandwich, or take a break from exploring the city.

Club Passim – there are many places to see live music in and around Boston (some of your classmates play at many of them). Club Passim is a folk music club located in Harvard Square, which hosts local and big-name folk singers every night of the week. It also offers yummy flatbread pizza and beer and wine.

The Forest Hills Cemetery – Jamaica Plain has many green spaces to explore; my favorite is this “garden cemetery.” Interesting headstones (look for e.e. cummings) are interspersed among trees, plants, and lakes. The cemetery is especially beautiful in autumn.

The South End – if are in need of delicious food, look no further than the South End. I have eaten at dozens of restaurants there and have never had a bad experience. There is also a fun market on Sundays with crafts, food-trucks, and a farmer’s market (though this doesn’t last all year). SOWA (south of washington/south end) also has a first Friday night where art studios open there doors and often have food or drinks available.

That’s all for now. I have loads of other recommendations – stay tuned!

About mmosesmspp

I am a third year PsyD student interested in working with children, adolescents, and families, especially those affected by trauma. I'm originally from Colorado. Although I miss the mountains and the activities that go along with them, I fell in love with Boston upon moving here five years ago. I initially came east to study creative writing, completing a memoir about my experience volunteering in the Peace Corps in Lesotho. I am an avid runner, yoga practitioner, and lover of food. I love trying new things and used to be obsessed with finding and attending each and every cool thing that happened in Boston. Now my days and nights are filled with internship responsibilities and coursework - and I couldn't be happier.
