Mid-Semester Stress- How to Deal!

Mid-semester is always stressful whether it be during the fall, spring, or summer. For some reason, it seems as if all the professors got together in a small room and secretly decided to make all large papers due during the same week.  This semester I have 3-4 midterms due within two weeks of each other. On top of that, for some stupid reason, I decided to make plans to go away for the next two weekends, when instead I should be working on these papers! Luckily, I’ve known about these plans and papers well in advance, and I’ve been able, somewhat, to prepare myself.

The key to dealing with mid-semester stress is to plan ahead. You get a syllabus in the beginning of the semester, so there should not be any surprises. If you anticipate a crazy week in which you have everything due, try and get some of it done before hand. Take advantage of those wonderful times where you don’t have a ton of work to do. I know it may be hard; when there’s nothing to do, I know I just want to do nothing, however, it will help you in the long run if you prepare ahead of time. Then you won’t freak out during the second week of November or March when you realize that you have three 10+ page papers due.

At the same time, it is important to participate in self-care during these hectic weeks. Make sure that you take some time for yourself to get away from school and work. Plan a dinner with a friend or go out for a drink. As for me, I’m attending a killer 80’s party this weekend in Vermont. That should relieve all stress for the time being. After all, how can you possibly be stressed out with leg warmers, neon colors, and Duran Duran playing in the background?

So just remember, Mid-semester is stressful, but it only lasts a couple of weeks and if you’re well prepared it probably won’t even phase you. So look ahead at your syllabus and get organized. And, remember, during this stressful time take some time to enjoy yourself- I know I am!

Here’s a picture of one of the last 80′s party we went to. I’m not sure how much my Fiancé will appreciate this being posted. He was going for “The Goonies” older brother look. As for me, I think I got confused between the late 80′s and early 90′s, but honestly, is there really a difference?
