“It Gets Better”

With all of the tragic events currently taking place with queer-identified children/teens/young adults, I wanted to share this powerful “It Gets Better” speech by Councilman Joel Burns.  As a future clinician, you may be working with the LGBT population.  At MSPP, you will learn how to feel like a more competent counselor dealing with diversity issues.  You will write many reflection papers about your biases and prejudices that have come from societal and familial messages.  Take 12 minutes out of your day, and listen to this moving speech:

Also, I write a blog for a website (bodimojo.com) that addresses teen mental and physical health topics.  I recently posted one geared towards a teen audience about how social media sites can both hurt and heal in regard to the GLBT tragedies—take a look:

When Social Media Hurts and Heals

After listening/reading to these, ask yourself this: What can you do to help? How can you be an LGBT ally?
